The Longitude DC Intensive is an eight-day program in Washington, DC, for technical AI safety talent considering working in the AI policy ecosystem. In the first half of the program, participants meet and learn from professionals across the AI policy ecosystem, including think tanks, advocacy organizations and government staff, and discuss recent developments in AI policy and how they can contribute to the field. The second half focuses on first-hand insights into the full breadth of AI policy careers and supports participants in taking their next career steps.
We decided to run Longitude after hearing repeatedly how talent-constrained the AI policy space is, especially when it comes to people with deep technical AI safety knowledge. Given the recent events over the summer, the need for more AI policy talent has become especially pressing. While there are great multi-month fellowships in AI policy like Horizon's, ours fills a gap by being both targeted specifically at technical talent and following a short, intensive format.
The program runs in early October with 15 participants and over 20 speakers and guests from the DC AI policy community. We are very excited to see it come alive, and grateful for the support and encouragement we have received in DC.
